First Cruella Trailer Reveals Emma Stone Embracing Her Villainous Side

Disney has unveiled the highly anticipated first official trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic tale, Cruella. Stepping into the shoes of the legendary Disney villain, Emma Stone, 32, takes center stage, giving audiences a tantalizing glimpse into her transformative journey from a humble maid to the magnificently deranged character of Cruella.

Emma Stone’s portrayal of Cruella comes across as nothing short of masterful, capturing the essence of the character’s iconic cackle right from the outset of the trailer. Her rendition of the famous line, “From the beginning, I realized I saw the world differently than everyone else. That didn’t sit well with some people. But I wasn’t for everyone. I guess they were all scared that I’d be a psycho,” instantly establishes the complex and rebellious nature of Cruella. With an air of defiance, she continues, “But a new day brings new opportunities, and I was ready to make a statement. How does the saying go? I am woman, hear me roar.”

This cinematic iteration of Cruella deviates from the familiar tale of 101 Dalmatians, instead delving into the untold backstory of the character. The narrative unravels Cruella’s formative years as she navigates the vibrant landscape of 1970s London. Notably, the story follows her aspirations to become a renowned fashion designer, a journey that inevitably entwines her with the world of fashion and sets her on a path towards her dark and mesmerizing transformation.

The film boasts a stellar cast, including not only Emma Stone but also Emma Thompson, Paul Walter, Joel Fry, and Emily Beechman. While the release was initially set for December 23, 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic prompted Disney to postpone the launch to May 2021, with the hope that the situation would improve and allow for a more widespread and immersive cinematic experience.

With its theatrical release scheduled for May 28, 2021, provided pandemic conditions permit, Cruella promises to be an enchanting visual spectacle that delves deep into the psyche of one of Disney’s most enigmatic and iconic villains. As audiences eagerly await the film’s unveiling, it’s clear that Disney is poised to breathe new life into a beloved character, giving us a fresh perspective on the origins and evolution of the flamboyantly wicked Cruella de Vil.
